Digital printing

What is digital printing?

Digital printing is a printing process in which print data is transferred directly from a digital file, such as a PDF, to the paper without the need for a printing plate, as is the case with offset printing.

How does digital printing work?

There are two main areas of digital printing. One is inkjet printing and the other is laser printing. In inkjet printing, the ink is sprayed directly onto the paper through small nozzles. In laser printing, also known as electrophotography, the image drum in the printer is electrically charged in the first step. This is exposed with the help of a laser and the printed image is created. The toner (powdery printing ink) only adheres to the exposed areas of the drum and is then transferred to the paper.

Features of digital printing

Speed: Digital printing enables a very fast printing process. This makes it ideal for short and medium runs where fast delivery is required.

Little lead time: As no printing forms or plates need to be created, there is no need for time-consuming preparation. This saves time and costs, especially for short runs or variable print jobs.

Customization: Digital printing makes it easy to individualize print products. For example, small changes can be made to each copy of a product (such as personalized names on invitations or personalized marketing materials).

What should I bear in mind when processing Gmund papers?

– The paper surface may vary slightly depending on the production process.
– Natural papers have a top and bottom side. It is recommended to use the top side of the paper as the front side for the printed object.
– When printing and processing, the recommendations of the manufacturers of machines, printing inks, adhesives, laminating and embossing foils etc. must be observed. Gmund cannot accept any liability for damage caused by incorrect applications.
– With all toner-based printing techniques, strong physical stress (friction), for example during bookbinding, can cause the toner to peel off
. Good printing results in digital printing require compliance with the technical specifications of the respective systems, their perfect condition, adherence to the maintenance intervals and the use of original inks/toners. Equally important is storage in the protective packaging (climate-proof). Please only remove this shortly before use.
The papers are acid-free and therefore extremely resistant to ageing. Very slow and careful production guarantees a unique surface, but the effect can vary slightly from production to production.
