At Gmund, sparkle on paper is achieved not through print, but through technology, experience and an understanding of materials. Back in 1974, Ludwig Kohler developed a process in which natural pigments are specifically combined with embossed papers. This causes the light to refract at many angles, creating a vibrant, deep metallic effect. The high pigment content and continuous development of the technology are crucial factors in this process.

At the heart of this development is a new coating system. Guided by the principle of broader, faster, better, it has been almost completely redesigned. In typical Gmund fashion, sustainability was a key focus right from the planning stage: an existing drying cylinder dating from 1925 serves as the main dryer for the high-tech plant. In addition, the building has been renovated to improve its energy efficiency and all technical facilities have been optimised.

Metallic Gmund papers sparkle with their aesthetics and their certified recyclability. With Gmund Moonlight, Gmund Paper is expanding its range with a collection that combines elegance and restraint in a unique way. A special manufacturing technique gives the paper a velvety softness and a noticeable texture.

The paper is embossed on both sides while wet, which preserves the liveliness of the paper fibres. Gmund Moonlight is available in two versions: ‘Glance’, with a metallic shimmering effect, and “Shadow”, with a matt, understated appearance. For ‘Glance’, Gmund draws on its many years of expertise in the production of metallic papers. A specially formulated pigment mixture creates a three-dimensional sheen that is particularly fascinating in changing light conditions. The metallic effects in gold and silver harmonise with the base colours and give the paper a subtle but effective presence. These are ideal for high-quality communication, covers, cards or packaging. Here too, Gmund Moonlight is fully recyclable and stands for sustainable design with high standards.

The result of decades of research is also evident in the Gmund Gold collection. Twelve golden shades, ranging from subtly iridescent to intense sparkle, open up a wide range of design possibilities.
