Gmund Paper: Committed to Excellence in Quality and Service
‘Haptics is the antithesis of the digital world.’ Several factors come together at Tegernsee to ensure the highest quality surfaces, textures and colours in paper production.
Selected high-quality and sustainable raw materials are processed using gentle production steps on the paper machines. Once on the roll, Gmund’s many paper varieties are stored for the next processing step. The warehouse in Gmund is a clear factor in the company’s success. The paper is first stored there in rolls before being cut to order in standard widths of 70 and 100 centimetres and then further refined. A sheet cutting machine produces high-precision cut paper sheets, which account for around 95 percent of deliveries. Modern satin calenders and embossing calenders are then available for finishing, and further production steps complete the customer-specific paper design.
The „Papiersaal“
Gmund Papier’s uncompromising commitment to quality and service makes customers around the world more successful. To guarantee these high standards, sheet checks are carried out in the Papiersaal (paper hall) at the site. Here, the company also relies on the skilled hands and trained eyes of particularly experienced employees. Over the decades, they have developed an unparalleled sensitivity and eye for paper that no machine can replace. They check each sheet individually by hand. That is why every ream delivered comes with a certificate guaranteeing that the paper is of impeccable quality. The sheets are checked and counted on both sides. The paper is then stacked by hand by two colleagues. The careful inspection of each individual sheet of paper and the handling of our diverse collections make the Papiersaal a key department at Gmund Papier.
Speed and flexibility are also a priority in the Papiersaal – regardless of whether small or large quantities are involved. Many thousands of tonnes of speciality paper leave the factory every year to support international corporations in their brand presentations.
