The Gmund Environmental Charter

As the first paper mill Gmund determines with its Environmental Charter a novel ecological standard and clearly comments on the four columns of environmental protection in the paper industry:

Water

A worldwide unique circulation- and water purification-plant cleans the colored production water by means of ozone (O₃) avoiding any additional chemicals. Thus the water consumption has been reduced significantly in the past years.

Raw Materials

For the production of the fine papers, solely environmentally friendly, sustainable raw materials are used. Of course they are FSC^® certified just as the whole product range.

Waste

Already since many years exists a strict internal waste elimination program. Every piece of waste is separated and will be, wherever possible, recycled. Thanks to this process the amount of waste has been reduced by 82 % within the last 10 years.

Energy

The energy generation is exemplary in Gmund. Over 70 % of the energy gets produced from the production itself by own waterpower and the cogeneration of heat as well as with a photopholtaic plant.
NEW since June 2009:
A new boiler house was implemented and emissions have been partly reduced by up to 98 %.

Our company is FSC^® certified since July 2006 (GFA COC 001370). For the manufacturing of our FSC certified papers we use FSC certified material and materials from controlled sources.

In accordance with the standard for controlled wood we thus commit that it is the principle of Büttenpapierfabrik Gmund not to be directly or indirectly involved in the following unacceptable activities:

- Illegal logging or the trade in illegal wood or forest products
- Violation of traditional and human right in forestry operations
- Destruction of high conservation values in forestry operations
- Significant conversion of forests to plantations or non-forest use
- Introduction of genetically modified organisms in forestry operations
- Violation of any of the ILO Core Conventions as defined in the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.
